This is a trip to the Charles Deam Wilderness, which is outside of Bloomington IN. This trip is for intermediate backpackers who have previous backpacking experience. We will be covering a good distance during this trip, so physical fitness and mental fortitude is a must.

The itinerary has been set for this trip. On Friday we will hike about 2.2 miles at night from a parking lot into a dry camp. On Saturday we will hike 17.5 miles and will also include a short bushwack to a campground by the lake. On Sunday we will hike about 7 miles back to the parking lot. The terrain here is rolling hills with many short but steep inclines and declines. We will have to hike into a campground on Friday night. There will also be a bit of bushwacking on Saturday.

We will leave Friday June 6 from Chicago and either camp at the Blackwell Horse campground or night hike into a backcountry site. Saturday we will hike to a backcountry site, and Sunday hike back to the cars. With hope we can go to the Upland Brewery for lunch on our return.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to be in touch.

The organizer of this trip reserves the right to limit participation on this trip at his discretion.

Who attended?

    •  Challenging but very do-able. Great moments of serendipity. Great job James. Great campsites and great orienteering.
    •  We called an audible due to the 90 degree plus weather. Friday we hiked into the woods about two miles in the rain and darkness with lighting shooting all around and made camp in a downpour. Saturday we hiked 10 miles or so to the lake where there was swimming in the hot sunny weather. Sunday was a 9 mile hike out to the cars, including a bushwack up a stream in a hollow. In all a great trip.
