The Bay Area Backpackers Meetup

Come join with other people in our area interested in backpacking. We will talk about locations, equipment, recipes, etc., and organize great trips to take together; regionally, throughout CA and nationally. Some excursions will be weekends, while others may be up to 10 days or even longer... let our willingness and imaginations lead the way! This is a meetup for anyone with an interest in, or passion for, backpacking: those who are strong hikers but have never backpacked before are most welcome. The trips will range in distance and difficulty, so everyone should be able to find an excursion that matches your particular level of ability and interest. We will learn skills from each other, and share ideas for improving our experience, such as best places to go, how to be an ultra light packer, what culinary delights are possible in the backcountry, etc. Whether you have backpacked all over the world or not at all (but cannot wait to get started), this is the meetup for you!

Our next meeting:
Hike at Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve
We will do a moderately strenuous, 7 and a half mile loop up the PG&E trail: this hike offers great, scenic vistas of the Silicon Valley and takes approximately 2 and a half hours to complete. We will have lunch afterward at a location of the group's choosing, in order to get to know one another better and share ideas for backpacking excursions this summer.
