Introduction
Welcome to Base Camp! I think this will be the BP club for the "common man". We'll be driving, not flying, to our venues. At the start we'll have 1 event/mo that assumes nothing. But we also want to do some miles & get "out there". Challenging!
What's the longest backpacking trip you've ever taken? (in mileage and/or days)

That would either be a week I spent in the Grand Canyon or my last AT Section hike which was just about 150 miles.

What was your most embarrassing backpacking moment?

Once I had rinsed out ALL my clothes in a swimming hole on a creek and hung them out to dry on some bushes. Then I went swimming. While I'm out there paddling around a group of hikers come along and start filling their water bottles. I stayed in!

What was your funniest backpacking moment?

This may not be the funniest, but I always get a kick out of the expresson of folk that ask me where I'm hiking to when I'm on the AT. Q:"Where you headed?" A:"North" or "Maine" Evidently not having a specific town as a destination freaks them out

What was your favorite backpacking experience?

On a biz trip I got to drive to Yosemite for the weekend. Winter was about to close the gap. I had a few survival basics and pair of mini 2nd-hand crampons from a thrift store. I spent two days hiking in ice and snow and made a VERY primative camp.

Please relate, in general terms, your backpacking experience.

I've been crazy about the outdoor as long as I remember. There were summers when I spent more night outdoors than in. My wife and I were working our way through the Ntnl parks till my our son was born. Since then I'v mainly been hiking the AT solo

  •  Dave, I'm so new to backpacking that all i have is a sleeping bag. Is that going to be enough for friday? I just need some direction in what kinds of things that I need.
    Thanks,
