Cincinnati Area Backpackers Meetup

This meetup is about backpacking. I imagine several specific goals: meet other like-minded outdoor enthusiasts, to improve our outdoor skills by learning from each other, provide training and mentoring for anyone who wants to start backpacking, to provide opportunities for overnight training hikes, weekend and extended weekend hikes, and to organize and facilitate longer backpacking trips such as the Smokies, the AT, PCT, & CDT. What do you imagine? All ideas are welcome. We have a clean slate here. I would love it if some of you with backpacking experience would step up and volunteer to be assistant organizers and trainers. I have introduced a few people to backpacking and its always been very rewarding. BTW, ladies, I will be bringing on board my wife and possibly a few other experienced women to address several specific items as they relate to backpacking. Yeah. That. ;-) I also have a ton of gear that I don't need. If you want to start backpacking, DO NOT go out and start buying stuff! Have your people call my people. Your first outfitted hike is on me. End of Trail Days in Damascus, VA
Appalachian Trail Days is an annual festival held in the small town of Damascus, Virginia.
The Appalachian Trail runs from Georgia, to Maine. Damascus, Virginia is roughly the halfway point, it is notable for that as well as the fact that Damascus is the only town that the Appalachian Trail actually passes through. The sidewalk on Main Street in Damascus is actually part of the Appalachian Trail. Read more
