In 2006, I (Robin) hiked for 8-1/2 months across America with my mom (Patty) to raise awareness and research funds for Aplastic Anemia and other bone marrow diseases. This trek was titled "Our Hike across America for Bone Marrow Disease."
After completing our nearly 5,000-mile trek, we wanted to keep going, but because we missed our family and friends so much, we had to find something a little closer to home... So "Our Hike" for Bone Marrow Disease continues! We would love for you to join us in a woodsy dayhike in beautiful northern Wisconsin!
The hike is a fun and relaxing non-competitive event, and will take us through a beautiful section of the Wisconsin Northwoods. We will have our "support vehicle," also known as a haywagon, at about the half-way point if you'd like a ride.
The day starts at 12:00 p.m. at The Corner Connection in Phillips, Wisconsin where hikers will register/sign in (see below for registration information -- We will not be setting up registration collection through Meetup. Please see the link to Active.com to register online). Registered hikers will receive a sportpack, a commemorative "Our Hike" bandana, and will automatically be entered into a drawing for a GoLite(R) backpack full of goodies! Also new this year, my mom and I will be holding a mini-presentation about our hike across the country and how it all came about. We'll have plenty of pictures and stories to share!
After our fun 7-mile hike, we'll finish on a small section of roadway that will lead us to Lost Vega's Resort, where there will be a spaghetti dinner special. After dinner, we'll start up some music, get the raffle paddles going around and spin the wheel for some awesome prizes!
Your participation in the day's events helps in the fight against Bone Marrow Disease. All proceeds from the day will go to the Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation, Inc. to help fund important research and to support and educate patients and their families.
The day's itinerary in a nutshell:
12:00 PM -- Registration, Lunch special, Backpack raffle, Intro Presentation by Robin and Patty.
2:00 PM -- Hikers hit the trail (will be around 7 miles total).
5:00 - 6:00 PM -- Hikers begin to arrive at Lost Vega's Resort.
Lost Vega's Resort will be having a lot of fun things going on, so even if you can't join us for the hike, be sure to meet us at Lost Vega's! There will be great raffle prizes, a spaghetti special and music! Don't miss it!!
Also, if you don't want to hike or would like to wait at Lost Vega's while a friend or partner hikes, they will be open and running hourly raffles.
