Introduction

Hiked AT in 1979; laid off for 15 years; got back into it as Dad to twin boys, have hiked extensively since then, but never as far as desired...

Music I like to listen to?

Theme-and-variation: jam bands (Dead, Phish, dmb, Umphries, Yonder, String Cheese), baroque, quartet jazz, etc.

Most memorable Backpacking Trip?

Southern AT over Xmas & New Years Eve, 2002. 12 days solo (first time since 1979), short daylight, tremendous night hiking, great friends at the end.

    "You would do fine, Heather. Seriously. Trust me. There are 10 mile stretches of the KT that will kick your butt much worse than most Smokys trails. For the most part, it's the difference between a country road (KT) and a national highway (US41)."

    "Does the AHT actually *need* water? And this time of year? I don't think I've ever actually hiked the AHT. After a decade of poor maintenance, the HHC has recently given it a scrubbing -- it should be about 2/3rds freshly cleared...."

    "Rats! That will obviously conflict with the KT-KT weekend.... But sounds like a great route -- I've done that area, and it pretty down low, and pretty up high.... and great trail in between. Can't beat that!"
