Why do you ask...'Rainfly'?

Good shot, Bobby! :)

Actually, we have to think about trail names for other folks who have been around for a while. Kenneth and John need ones for sure by now!

I think something related to Steam Engine should fit Kenneth! :)

Not sure about John: Pizza Man - for him making the pizza on our last trip in Cohutta?

Bobby (Polar Bear) gave me mine. I heard Dima hands them out too. Karen, do you like Rainfly?

Hey Karen, I have an extra backpacker poncho if you want it. It is designed to cover both the hiker and the pack.
Let me know. It is brand new and will cost you a cold beer next time we finish a hike together.

They're typically used by long distance hikers and more specifically thru-hikers. Some people start out with one, others get one handed to them over the course of a 3-6 month trip.

I do know a couple of guys (Andy Skurka and Brian Doble) that are very accomplished hikers and don't use trail names (as far as I know at least). Most people that know Andy just refer to him as Skurka. I'm meeting Brian for the first time when I leave for the Whites tomorrow but I'm pretty sure he just goes by Brian.

I agree, trail names are not for everyone, but sometimes they are fun - right, Polar? :)

I've had a lot of trail names, some unprintable, and none have really "stuck" ;)
