Who organized?
Dmitry and Lou

The coordinates of Standing Indian Info Center (as I can read it from my map): 35.0784 N 83.5294 W

This group will start from the trail head at 1pm on Friday, go clockwise on loop and camp Friday night near Big Spring. Day 2 we'll have a long day and camp at Standing Indian Mountain. We plan to meet the 2nd group at Standing Indian Saturday night. Sunday we'll complete the loop ending back at start point.

For this group (20-milers), we have 2 carpool meet points (NE and NW sides of town), one at Dmitry's leaving at 10am and one at 7:30am at the Starbucks/Barnes & Noble just east of I575 on Barrett Pkwy.

Karen: We'll meet you on Hwy 64 near Hayesville, NC or you can just go all the way to the trail head at Standing Indian Back Country Info center. It's less driving for you...

My cell is [masked]. Call me to clarify.

great... since i don't have a scale at home (i don't like to weigh myself therefore never buy a weighing scale...).

Renee, I will bring my luggage weight scale so everyone who wishes can weigh their pack. It's a great chance to leave unwanted items in your car if you think your pack is too heavy.

Benedictine is all packed and ready to go. Great medicine. 40% alcohol content.

Renee: you wish! Fish Dog lets all his catch go back in the water - that was very disappointing!

Dmitry, Nick: I'll be in my wife's small car so I'll have to ride along with whomever decides to drive and will contribute gas money of course. See you at 10. Hope the rain holds off.

Renee, Lou mentioned he would like to get up there earlier to do some fishing. I don't mind starting earlier and checking the visitor information center for possible maps. I don't mind getting into camp a few hours before dark so we can set up without those headlamps. Rain is predicted so darkness may fall earlier than expected.

question: Lou, Bill: since Dmitry's group are meeting at 10am, how come we need to meet at 7:30am? don't get me wrong, i am fine with the time, but just wonder why...

Lou: Starting at 1 PM looks like an overshot to me. What if we start a couple hours later? If we hit the trail at 3 PM then we'll have 3 hours to make 4 miles before 6 PM and have 1.5 hours to set a camp?

Karen, Renee and Bill: you guys have been having fun here for sure! :) Thomas and Nick: seems like three of us are going to drive from my place. My Civic coupe can take two passengers with backpacks, so you can drive with me unless someone can offer a more spacious vehicle.

His formal name is Brer Mountain Rabbit. He's probably sitting by the fire reading the latest book on economics!

    •  Awesome.
    •  It was great. There were 9 of us. I found everyone to be delightful. It is a lot of fun to camp and hike with people that have the skills that I encountered from other folks on this trip. Have backpack will travel!!!
    •  Great company, beautiful views.
    •  FANTASTIC, The Views, The Views, The People, The People!
    •  Amazing view !!! make the hiking all worthwhile... ... group members were GREAT as usual... ... met some new and interesting people. won't forget Mike's tasty steak, plus john and jeff's pizza! got scared by a "fake warewolf" but it was extremely fun! thanks to Dr. Lou! sharing the shelter with 4 others was a good experience... everything was really great ! thanks to Dmitry and Lou !
    •  Yet another wonderful trip organized by Lou! I enjoyed meeting new members as well as the old guard! Will come up with a video of the trip shortly.
    •  Beautifull trail but a ton of miles. 12 miles is not for the beginners. Wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else. Had a great time everyone.
