Our June social meet up will be at the Buford REI Scratch and Dent sale! This is a GREAT way to gear up at a DEEP discounted price! For those who don't know, REI has a VERY liberal return policy, which means periodically they sale returned gear at deep deep discounted prices. I was once with with a buddy who bought a 300 dollar pack for 50 bucks! It had like a missing buckle or something which we easily fixed!

I'll probably be there a little after 9 to get us a place in line (yes there will be a line!) so if you want to come early and keep my company that's cool! I'll be wearing a bright orange t-shirt to stand out!

At noon we'll head across the parking lot to Ted's Montana Grill; the winner of the National Restaurant Association's Green Restaurant Revolution award for their dedication to the environment! Their bison burgers are awesome! They are also vegetarian and vegan friendly!

Toilet paper? I wish it was the only thing we had to stay in line for in those days!

funny... But we weren't shopping for toilet paper! Anyways it was a good time with friends. Even though the sale itself was outside in the heat- we all found some good deals, and had a GREAT lunch.

It's good to know you guys had a good time! But I guess I paid my dues by staying in lines and getting through the scrambles to get something when I was growing up in the USSR in 1980s-90s! :)

The line forms the previous night. Seriously. They open at 9 or 10 and the lines moves inside so I doubt you'll be in the hot sun too long.

For anyone that is interested I started making a lightweight gearlist with stuff available from REI (some of it might only be on the website). http://spreadsheets.google.... The basics are there along with all the posted prices from the site.

Guess, I'll break down and get my membership. I think I have all the membership benifits memorized, that's because the REI staff repeats it to me everytime I buy something. They keep hounding me and hounding me....I'm a leper without it. The three things you HAVE to have if you get pulled over in Atlanta: Drivers liscense, Insurance card, and .....REI membership card!! UURGH!

    •  Arriving with Polar Bear before opening at 10:00 am, we lined up outside. After they opened we had to produce our REI cards and then walked through the store and through the loading dock outside. where they had the stuff on tables and clothes hangers. Plenty of hiking boots as well. It was like a fish feeding frenzy but most folks were polite during the scramble. I came away with a $139.00 REI One jacket for $26.00. It had been turned back in by previous customer. A great deal. The a/c in the Montana grill was a relief. Met Grant's financee and we had some great food. Washed mine down with Sam Adams and Bobby had some Newcastle. Home by 1:00 pm. Thanks for a great meetup Grant.
    •  Thanks to Grant for coming up with this social, it was a very creative idea. I had allot more fun then I expected and walked away with a pair of convertible pants for 18-dollars and a shirt for $14. They took us to the back where they had everything on tables and it was pretty INTENSE. I actually had to step away and observe for a few mins and then calmly found the items I got without getting pushed around. We then had Bison burgers and some brews. Yeah! Wish we could have had more people make the commitment to show up. This would have been a perfect social for meeting new members.
