Off to 香港...

We've got three NYC backpackers going to Hong Kong to meetup with another NYC Backpacker, who now lives there.

One of the world's greatest cities, great food and, as Tom Tam says, "some of the best urban hiking in the far east!". If you've never been there before, its the best way to visit...with people who know the place.

I'll be there from November 5th poking around and exploring the city for 5 days with the others...I'll be off to Singapore on the 10th and then on to India after that (but I'll be busy working after I leave Hong Kong). Some of the other backpackers will be traveling on to the mainland on the 12th after their stay in Hong Kong.
In case you're passing through around that time and are interested in meeting up with us there on some of these days, just rsvp and we will plan where and when to meet...

Kevin, Thomas, and myself will fly to Huangshan on Nov 12th. We will hike up on Mount Huangshan on Nov 13th and stay in one of the hotel on the top of the mountain, then watch the famous sunrise the next morning. Please check out the websites about Huangshan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... http://www.chinaodysseytour...

HK is truly wonderful for hiking. More than half the territory is mountains and forests. On Nov 8, if people are interested I'll take us on an ~8 mile hike through Tai Tam country park up to Mt Parker, across the Dragon's Back and down to the sea at Shek O village where we can relax at the beach.

    •  Unexpectedly great hiking. Hiked about 10 miles up to 1500 ft elevations from sea level. Hike wound up at funky little beach town where we jumped into the ocean to cool down. Was weird hiking from the city straight up these mountains then 10 miles along ridges (Dragons' back) and down to the beach. Very cool city.
