We will do a 2 night backpacking trip to New Hampshire in the middle of the summer. This will be an amazing backpacking trip where we will hit 16 4000 peaks in New Hampshire. We will drive up to Conway, NH on Thursday night and stay at our favorite hostel for the night and then early in the morning on Friday we will drive to the trailhead.

Backpacking plan:

- Friday

Backpack to Guyot Campsite from Hancock Notch Trail: 14 miles. 3 mile side trip to Hancocks without our backpacks.

Peaks:

Mt Hancock
South Hancock
Bondcliff
Mt Bond

- Saturday

Backpack to Garfield Ridge Campsite 5.6 mile hike with sidetrips to West Bond, Mt Guyot, Zealand Mtn, South Twin, North Twin and Galehead which should add about 7.2 miles.

Peaks:

West bond
Mt Guyot
Zealand
South Twin
North Twin
Galehead

- Sunday

Backpack to Lincoln Woods trailhead. 14 miles.

Peaks:

Garfield
Lafayette
Lincoln
Little Haystack
Liberty
Flume

We will drive back on Sunday unless people suggest we stay to rest at the hostel and drive back on Monday morning. I'm open to that suggestion.

Experienced backpackers only. Must be able to read a map and find your way out of the woods if needed.

Requirements:

Backpack
Map
Thermal Underwear
Warm Hat
Balaclava
Soft Shell
15F-20F sleeping bag
Gloves
Fleece
Sleeping Mat
Food
Stove (optional, we can share) + Fuel
Water filter or water tablets or both. (If you have a sterypen make sure you have some pills as backup those things always fail.)
Sleeping pad
Compass
2 1L bottles of water to fill up with water.
Headlamp plus extra batteries.

The warm clothes are necessary in these mountains. It can be hot up to 90 degrees during the day but at night temperature can dip to below freezing with snow in the middle of the summer. It is not always the case it could be hot every night but in these mountain you never. It was snowing at night on July 2 when I was there 2 years ago.

This is a very hard backpacking trip and you will have to keep a good pace in order not to finish at midnight every night. I'm not responsible for any of you. This is not a paid trip. It is just an invitation to join me at your own risk. We do backpack in pairs so that if anything happens to either person in a group the other one can get help. Pair up with someone of your own speed.

When you RSVP please indicate whether you're driving or not and how many you can take with you.

thanks,

francisco

If you guys pass the 13 falls tent site on the way back to Lincoln woods, could you take some photos for me of the tent pads and area. we will be there in a few weeks and want to know about tent tie downs and how soft/muddy the trail is. ( is the site full and where are overflow tent sites) If its like Franconia falls trail- its flat with some mud- wear leg gaitors. My Sunday hike is Mt Nancy-on rt 302. I wonder what time you guys will finish- would love to grab a beer with you.

I know that set of maps. I own those two maps and they actually cover the whole park. However I do like the map that I posted in my previous comment much better. Unfortunately they only sell up in nh at the outdoor stores there. Up to you guys which map you get. If you get the national geographics once make sure you have the white mountains - franconia noth map and not the white mountains - presidentials map.

Dan I purchased them and returned them I believe. The return trip is not on the maps. They only cover as far west as our second night stay. I would get the AMC maps.

Francisco don't need a bed at the hostel. I will definitely be there but you wont see me till Friday night at the first site unless I get a bug up my ass to climb the hancocks and backtrack but I doubt it. Later

Anyone interested in staying in the woods a little longer & carpooling let me know. I'm driving up Thursday at 12 & staying @ Franconia falls Thurs night, about a 2 mile hike from the parking area, then hooking up with everyone Fri night at Guyot about a 10 mile hike on Friday instead of 15+. On Sun night Im crashing at Liberty Springs which is about 7 miles from the same parking area shortening Sundays hike to 7 miles. Sometimes the pain exceeds the enjoyment on long days, this should be easier
